Hello friends,

Before we get into this week's recs, a quick update: we've been heads-down shipping improvements to hili. Sign-in is easier, Asks are more focused, sharing a rec takes fewer steps, and you now have full control over your notifications. If you want the full rundown, check out the updates here →

This week I've got a community member I want to spotlight in this week's digest. Not only is she a former college soccer player and physical therapist — she's also my sister.

Meet Katie.

Katie has worked as a physical therapist in St. Louis for the past eight years, specializing in lower extremity injuries and helping athletes return to their sport. She played soccer at Rockhurst University, so she knows exactly what it takes to train hard and how to recover when you do.

Her "Go-to Workout Equipment" collection on hili is full of affordable gear that proves you don't need a fancy gym membership to get a great workout. You just need to know what works — and use it.

Let's get moving.

Community hilight: Katie’s Go-to Workout Equipment

Soccer player turned sports rehab PT. Katie knows what your body can do, and what it needs to keep doing it.

Exercise Sliders | $8
“These are such an easy and inexpensive way to up the intensity of any workout. You can add them to several traditional exercises and get your heart rate up without the need for weights.

Slam Ball | $24
“These are a great way to switch things up whether you want to do ball slams, core work, or wall balls to challenge your strength and endurance. Unlike traditional weighted exercise balls, the slam ball is filled with sand to help maintain its shape and to prevent it from bouncing too much or rolling away. The weight of these vary from 6 lbs all the way up to 50 lbs.

TRX Suspension Trainer | $192
“The TRX system can be attached to your door to allow easy accessibility whether you hook it on your door or want to bring it with you when you travel. Challenge your core, upper body, and lower body all in one. Whether your goal is strength of you want a quick HIIT workout – the TRX gives you all of these options. You can pay $7.99/month to access the TRX app which offers a variety of workouts.

Long resistance bands | $34
“This set comes with 5 different resistance bands, a pair of handles, ankle straps, door anchors, and even a protective sleeve to prevent the dreaded ‘rubber band snap.’ Throw the set in the carrying bag to take with you anywhere. They even come with a workout book to help get you started.

Ethos Adjustable Dumbbell Set | $159
“Ideal for seamless weight changes and full-body workouts at home. These have a non-slip grip and have ten adjustments between 5-50 lbs.

Foam Roller | $20
“This high-density foam roller can come in a variety of sizes including: 18 - 24 - and 36 inch lengths. These are light-weight and durable and can be taken on the go. Foam rollers are most beneficial to be used prior to a work to facilitate an increase in blood flow to our muscles and help our muscles “feel looser.”

Here are a few things that have caught my attention this week:

❄️ Absolutely love this stunning travel vlog of rural Kyoto in the snow.

📋 As someone who has had to become more active on social media (which is not my favorite thing) to promote hili, I appreciated this list of 100 ways to share your work + life OFF social media

🖼️ I spent a few days this past week in Northwest Arkansas and if you are ever in the area you have to spend a few hours at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. It had one of the most impressive collections I have seen in a long time, and the buildings and grounds were just as impressive as the museum. Best of all, it is FREE!
